About Muddy Paws Crime UK & Ireland
Muddypawscrime started out in 2021 with a plan to create a pet theft/animal welfare documentary. The goal was to include stories from stolen dog owners, addressing illegal breeding, animal welfare issues, and pet theft awareness. The idea originated from Muddy Paws Crime Founder Lisa Loops, who, after being part of many lost dog groups, saw that the situation was worsening. Recognising that dogs missing for months or years were getting lost in the noise of stolen dog groups and posts, she felt strongly that these dogs needed continued media attention and their owners deserved a voice.
Speaking with owners, it became clear that while initial help was often available, owners were left unsure where to turn next. Many stolen dog cases were closed by the police, sometimes deemed civil matters when they were, in fact, criminal. Muddy Paws Crime UK & Ireland fills this gap, offering ongoing support to owners even when cases are classified as civil.
As weeks progressed, owners started contacting Muddypawscrime, pleading for assistance. This followed a successful intervention in a case where the police were closing it despite knowing the dog's location and the dog still being microchipped to its owner. Muddypawscrime intervened, escalating the case to the police crime commissioner. Within two months, the dog was reunited with its owner.
